IS A PROUD SPONSOR OF WEST TENNESSEE WARRIORS SPEECH & DEBATE CLUB
Speech and Debate is for students who are 12-18 years old as of October 1 of the competition year. The season runs from mid-October through May of each school year.
We will compete in Stoa events (http://stoausa.org), which culminate with a national event (NITOC) each year in May.
The fee for the program will cover instruction and coaching from qualified individuals who are experienced in speech and debate (current Union Speech and Debate students - http://www.uu.edu/org/debate/), a team shirt, as well as the registration to one event each season. Stoa Family Registration ($55), event registration after the initial event, LexisNexis registration (optional), travel to events, and any other optional costs will be the responsibility of the student's family.
Most events have a registration cost of $25-45 per event (again, this is optional). In order to qualify for the national event, a student must participate and qualify by placing at regional events.
Weekly Practice will be held at 5:30PM on Thursdays starting in October. There will also be a One Day Intensive held prior to weekly practices to kick off the season. The team is open to all interests and abilities, and practice requirements are flexible based upon the level of competition desired. Team size is limited, so register soon to reserve your spot!
Junior Speech is for students who are 7-11 years old as of October 1 of the competition year. The season runs from mid-October through May of each school year.
The Junior Speech team is geared towards younger students and helps student with speech and oral presentation. Junior Speech participants will have the opportunity to complete in Nashville each year, as well as present to local groups around Jackson. This is a great starter course for younger students who will one day compete with the varsity Debate Team.
