COST: See details to right
On behalf of the WTHSA, I’m writing with information about the 2018-19 middle school boys basketball team. My name is Justin Barnard. This season, I’ll be serving a coach for the West TN Warriors together with Greg Parsons. Here’s the info on our upcoming season:
We anticipate putting together one team of middle school boys to represent the West TN Warriors this season. The team is primarily for 6th -8th grade boys. However, we will consider 5th grade boys with strong basketball abilities, and some 9th grade boys may be eligible (provided
they were 14 years old on August 1). Because we are putting together only one team, we anticipate carrying a limited roster. So, there will be a tryout period, and those tryouts will be competitive.
The tryout period will take place over 4 days – our normal practice schedule: M, T, Th, F from 4:30-6:00 p.m. September 10-14, 2018 at the First Baptist Jackson gym. We invite interested boys to come out for these 4 days for some structured play and drills. At the end of this week, we will make decisions about the team and notify parents based on performance and
participation during the open tryouts.
Team practices will begin the following week, September 17 th . We intend to practice 4 days per week: M, T, Th, F from 4:30-6:00 p.m. until games begin in mid-October. Our game schedule will run from mid-October to late January (with appropriate breaks for Thanksgiving and
Christmas). During the stretch of games, we will practice less frequently.
All players who participate in the tryout period will be required to have a current physical and sign the necessary release forms provided by WTHSA. The forms are located at wthsa.org under the “Parents” tab. PLEASE NOTE: These forms MUST be
turned in prior to participating in the tryout on Monday, September 10 th at 4:30 p.m.
Finally, in order to defray costs associated with our season, we anticipate a participation fee for those who make the team. We intend to do our best to keep this fee as close to our projected need as possible. It will not be more than $250.00 per player.
We’re excited about this season! Should you have questions or need additional information including the password needed for the Parent Tab of the website, please do not hesitate to contact Justin Barnard via email at email@example.com.
